The “Mendhil” tied round the waist, is one women’s traditional dresses in the Fahs-Anjra province, near Tetuan, being also the main symbol of local identity. Besides its cultural importance, the elaboration of the “Mendhil” and the “Fouta”, to cover the head, constitutes one of the main income resources for local people. In the frame of the Plan of Development for the Craft Sector, we have carried out a complete research programme which included training, design and raw material improvement, focusing on commercialization. Our aim has been innovating without betraying the essential, whereas artisans’ creativity and skills have done the rest. The result: a great variety of high quality products which responds to the tastes and demands of the new markets.
