Textiles from Taonate

Tejido de Taunate

The town of Oulad Azam, in the Taounate province, is known by the handmade elaboration of the kharka, a piece of cloth which has been used to make the traditional djellaba for hundreds of years, by using sheep wool in its natural colours: brown and ivory. The new products shown here have been elaborated in the basic existing looms and they are the result of innovation in design and production techniques. This project has contributed to the creation of a cooperative which gathers weavers, tailors and braids craft women.
