INNOVARTE and the Cideal Foundation, from Madrid, together with the local NGO, Sendas, formulated and carried out the project “Sustainable socioeconomic Development of the Craft Sector” in the province of Azuay, Ecuador, financed by the Caixa Foundation. The beneficiaries were craftsmen and women from the region, rich in ancient craft expressions such as the “ikat”, the knitting work, the filigree and the “paja-toquilla”, used to elaborate basket-making products and hats, as the famous Panama Hat.
